Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: Supervisory Security Guards are responsible for the safeguarding government personnel, property, and technologies against such threats as: unlawful entry, sabotage, espionage, theft, accidental or willful damage, and destruction.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes instructing and/or assigning work to subordinate guards and controlling access to an installation and/or other restricted areas.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Major Duties:

  • Serve as a Shift Supervisor who exercises direct supervision of the activities of a guard force shift who are responsible for providing 24 hour security measures against theft, fire, accident, pilferage, trespass, sabotage, and espionage.
  • Responsible for performing a diverse range protective responsibilities over Federal property, employees, and visitors. Performs various duties requiring the application of different and unrelated methods, practices, techniques, or criteria.
  • Determine the nature of perceived threat, from people or actions, by the nature of hazards imposed by local terrain, and/or weather or other conditions that affect lighting, communications, and the ability to observe or pursue violators.
  • Perform supervisory and administrative duties relating to the security guard force. Plan work to be accomplished by subordinates, set and adjust short-term priorities, and prepare schedules for completion of work.
