Job Description

Summary

This job involves overseeing a small team at an outdoor recreation center on the West Point military base, where you'll manage daily operations like scheduling activities, handling equipment rentals, and ensuring smooth recreation services for users.

It's a supervisory role focused on keeping parks, picnic areas, and equipment in good order while supporting fun outdoor experiences.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on experience in recreation programs or a relevant degree, who enjoys leading teams and organizing community activities.

  • Work experience in administering recreation activities, including preparing calendars, maintaining attendance records, providing schedule information, issuing property, and managing inventory control
  • OR a bachelor's degree with a major in recreation or physical education, or at least 24 semester hours in related courses
  • Ability to supervise 3-12 employees, including assigning and reviewing work, planning schedules, approving leave, setting performance objectives, and rating performance
  • Practical knowledge of recreational activities and skills in using recreation materials and facilities
  • Highly preferred: At least 1 year of experience with MWR Management Information Systems like RecTrac or similar

Full Job Description

This position is located with West Point Outdoor Recreation Parks and Picnic Areas in the Equipment Checkout Center.

Work experience in the administration of recreation activities such as: prepare activities calendars, maintaining attendance records, and provide information concerning schedules and activities, issuance of authorized property and in the maintenance of inventory control; This experience must be reflected on your resume to be considered eligible for this position.

OR 2.

Successful completion of a 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree with major study or at least 24 semester hours in courses related to recreation or physical education in support of recreational activities.

The education/certification must be reflected on your resume and your degree/transcript/certification uploaded at the time of application to be considered eligible for this position.

In addition to the above qualifications, candidates who possess the following qualifications will be considered "Highly Preferred" or "Best Qualified": 1.

At least 1 year of experience working with MWR Management Information Systems (RecTrac or similar).

The experience must be reflected on your resume at the time of application to be considered a highly preferred candidate.

Applicants meeting the Highly Preferred criteria will be referred first to the Selecting Official.

All other applicants will be referred for consideration if the certificate (referral list) is returned with no selection. Major Duties:

  • Supervises a staff of 3-12 employees, assigns and reviews work assignments on a daily, weekly, or longer basis.
  • Plans work schedules, approves or disapproves leave, determines performance objectives and rates performance.
  • Serves as a recreation assistant in support of recreational activities applying a practical knowledge of recreational activities and skills in the use of recreation materials, and facilities.
