About the Position: Supervisory Physical Security Specialist (Access Control) serving as Installation Access Control Supervisor within DES at Fort Belvoir, VA.

Oversees the Access Control Program and Visitor Control Center operations; supervises personnel; manages automated access systems; ensures regulatory compliance; coordinates with law enforcement agencies; and supports installation security planning, inspections, and physical protection of facilities.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service which includes assisting with physical security and installation access control programs; coordinating with installation agencies regarding access and VIP visitor services; maintaining and evaluating automated access control systems; reviewing security procedures for compliance; maintaining visitor and contractor access records; and supporting supervision of Visitor Control Center operations.

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.

For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone -- no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).

Major Duties:

  • Provides management and oversight of the installation Access Control Program.
  • Maintains and evaluates the Automated Installation Entry System for effectiveness and compliance.
  • Reviews engineering drawings and construction plans to ensure physical security measures are incorporated.
  • Supervises Visitor Control Center operations, personnel vetting, and pass issuance.
  • Plans, assigns, and evaluates work; balances workload and ensures timely mission execution.
  • Coordinates with law enforcement and investigative agencies on access control matters.
  • Develops procedures, monitors contractor access, and ensures regulatory compliance.
