Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team in the Hearing Clerk's Office of the Department of Agriculture, where you'll manage the filing, scanning, and archiving of legal documents for administrative law cases, while ensuring records are properly served and certified for appeals.

You'll also communicate rules and guidelines to staff and the public, and handle training and workload planning.

Full Job Description

This position is located with United States Department of Agriculture, Office of Administrative Law Judges, Hearing Clerk's Office, Washington, DC.

The Hearing Clerk's Office is responsible for maintaining and archiving the formal record in cases brought before the Office of Administrative Law Judges (OALJ).

The Hearing Clerk's Office serves pleadings, submissions, and decisions and orders upon parties and certifies the formal record of proceedings to federal courts upon appeal.

Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below.

GS-12: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level.

Specialized experience is defined as: Experience communicating Departmental guidelines, rules, regulations, and other information necessary to implement approved principles and policies.

Experience managing the workload of the staff in the Hearing Clerk's Office concerning the receipt, acknowledgment, scanning of, and docketing of all pleadings filed with the office.

Experience maintaining the official record in all actions filed, providing procedural and other information to appropriate officials of the Department, counsel and the public.

Time in grade: One year at the GS-11 grade level is required to be eligible for the GS-12. Time-in-Grade requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement.

Applicants MUST submit an SF-50 that illustrates time-in-grade and reflects title, series, and grade. No Award SF-50 will be accepted.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. NOTE: This experience must be demonstrated on your resume/supporting documents. Major Duties:
