Job Description

Summary

This job is for a lead investigator in a security team at a retirement home for armed forces veterans in Washington, DC, where you'll direct staff in tasks like enforcing rules, investigating incidents, preventing crimes, and maintaining physical safety.

Full Job Description

This position is located in the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH), Security Division in Washington, DC. The incumbent is the Supervisory Investigator for the Division.

The incumbent is responsible for providing direction to subordinate personnel that perform the duties of a security operation by engaging in traffic enforcement, fact finding inquiries, crime prevention, and physical security activities.

The Security Division is composed of federal employees. You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.

The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis.

Specialized experience for the GS-09: You must have at least one year (52 weeks) of experience at the GS-07 level, or equivalent, that has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of this position.

Specialized experience for this position includes: Performing investigations, which includes gathering data, analyzing evidence, conducting interviews, obtaining statements and information for reports/case records and preparing and presenting reports; AND Overseeing security operations.

OR you may qualify on education: A master's or equivalent graduate degree; or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B or J.D, if related.

OR you may qualify on a combination of education and specialized experience: Only graduate level education in excess of the first 18 semester hours may be combined to be considered for qualifying education.

Combining education and experience may be computed by first determining the total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required for the grade level; then determining your education as a percentage of the education required for the grade level; and then adding the two percentages.

The total percentages must equal at least 100 percent to qualify.

In addition to the above requirements, you must meet the following time-in-grade requirement, if applicable: For the GS-9, you must have been at the GS-7 level for 52 weeks Time After Competitive Appointment: Candidates who are current Federal employees serving on a non-temporary competitive appointment must have served at least three months in that appointment.

Major Duties:

As a Supervisory Investigator, you will: Provide protection of resident and employee lives as well as ensuring the safety of physical facilities of the Washington campuses.

Investigate criminal activity and identify potential safety concerns Manage oversight of AFRH's complex and sophisticated fire, duress and elopement alarm system.

Provide direction for safety issues and telephone inquiries. Plan, organize, coordinate, assign, and direct the work activities of subordinate Team Leaders, Security Guards and the Security Assistant.

Assure compliance of directives and policies by residents, employees, tenants and guests, as well as subordinates and recommends disciplinary action to the Administrator, as necessary.

Conduct regular in-service training on security/safety related subjects.
