About the Position: This position is in the Defense Health Agency Public Health, Aberdeen Proving Ground (APG), MD.

Basic Requirements: Physical Scientist (1301): bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in physical science, engineering, or mathematics which included 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science such as mechanics, dynamics, properties of materials, and electronics.

(Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to one of the majors, as shown in A above, that included at least 24 semester hours in physical science and/or related engineering science, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Chemist (1320): bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.

OR Combination of education and experience which includes courses work equivalent to a major in the physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in the Federal service which includes assisting with the evaluation of work performance, coordinating laboratory activities, and conducting studies related to occupational health and/or environmental monitoring.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-13). Major Duties:

  • Supervise a team of professional civilian and military chemists and technicians.
  • Set priorities and prepare schedules for completion of work.
  • Resolve employee complaints and refer more serious complaints to higher-level supervisors.
  • Oversee compliance with the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and other accreditation standards.
  • Manage a budget in excess of $5 million dollars.
