Summary

This job involves leading a team of engineers and technicians in a Navy lab to develop and provide highly accurate measurement and calibration services for things like electrical systems, pressure, temperature, and mechanical equipment.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SUPERVISORY GENERAL ENGINEER in the NAVY PRIMARY STANDARDS LABORATORY (NPSL), ELECTRICAL/MECHANICAL METROLOGY BRANCH of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying knowledge of metrology and calibration; 2) Operating complex primary measurement systems; 3) Working in a team environment; 4) Utilizing effective communication and writing skills; 5) Performing as a program and/or project manager; 6) Acquiring a strong technical background in Mechanical Systems; 7) Assisting with the planning and execution of workload priorities; and 8) Building strong and long-term relationships with key stakeholders.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will be responsible for conceiving, planning, directing and coordinating the branch's effort to develop technical and operational capabilities to provide the highest, most accurate level of metrology service in the assigned area.
  • You will provide precision calibration services in the areas of electrical, microwave, electro-optics, dimensional, liquid and gas flow, pressure, temperature, force, acceleration, and gas analysis measurements.
  • You will coordinate the efforts of laboratory personnel with other developmental groups to ensure calibration program resources are used effectively and efficiently, and determine impact of technical developments on NPSL capability.
  • You will conduct personal research, provide technical assistance and coordinate corrective action.
  • You will supervise the efforts of approximately 15 engineers and technicians who develop and maintain primary measurement systems, perform customer calibrations, and provide technical assistance to fleet laboratories.
