Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Overseeing crew chiefs, truck drivers or journeyman firefighters engaging in activities such as to fire prevention, fire fighting, inspection.

2) Distributing and monitoring work assignments of others; 3) Evaluating, planning and directing the fire prevention and protection programs and operations.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Selective Placement Factor: In addition to the specialized experience and/or education required to qualify for the GS-09 level you must also possess and maintain ALL the following Department of Defense (or reciprocal equivalent) certification, certified through DoD Fire and Emergency Services Certification System, International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), or the Fire Service Professional Qualifications System (PRO-Board) in accordance with DoD 6055.06-M.

Must possess and maintain DoD Firefighter Certifications: Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, HAZMAT Incident Commander, Airport Firefighter NOTE: You MUST attach a copy of ALL the required certificates to your application package.

Major Duties:

  • Establishes jobs and performance requirements.
  • Performs as shift supervisor over crew chiefs, truck drivers and journeyman firefighters engaged in all activities relative to fire prevention, fire fighting, inspection and standby at air field.
  • Serves as the Incident Commander with a specialization in Operations.
  • In concert with the chief and other supervisors, develops plans, procedures, methods, and techniques to provide and sustain an efficient and effective fire suppression and rescue force.
  • Makes decisions and takes command to ensure that mutual aid support is also requested to protect installation personnel and government assets when required
  • Responds and takes charge on emergency calls and urgent calls for assistance.
