Job Description

Summary

This job is for a Battalion Chief overseeing fire crews at a military base in Texas, where you'll manage firefighting operations, emergency responses, training, and inspections to keep everyone safe.

It involves leading teams during fires, rescues, and hazardous situations, including medical aid and disaster responses.

A good fit would be someone with hands-on firefighting experience, leadership skills, and the right certifications who thrives in high-pressure, team-based environments.

Key Requirements

  • One year of specialized experience in controlling/extinguishing fires in a military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department
  • Experience directing firefighting personnel at emergency calls until relieved by a senior officer
  • Experience drafting reports related to fire operations, such as incident reports and schedules
  • National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Basic or State EMT license
  • DoD, IFSAC, or Pro Board certifications: Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazmat Incident Commander
  • Ability to plan, supervise, and execute fire suppression, rescue, training, inspections, and hazardous material responses

Full Job Description

This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

About the Position: located at Fort Hood TX This position is included under the provisions of Special Retirement Coverage (SRC) and may have both a maximum entry age and a mandatory retirement date.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social).

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

controlling or extinguishing fires as a member of an organized military, industrial, volunteer, or governmental fire department or brigade; directing firefighting personnel at emergency calls until relieved by a Senior Fire Officer; and drafting recurring reports related.to fire operations such as, incident reports and schedules.

This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

In addition to meeting the specialized experience requirement above, applicants must also possess: Certifications Required: ALL of the following Department of Defense, IFSAC or Pro Board certifications National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians (NREMT) Basic and or State EMT license DoD Firefighter Certifications: Firefighter I & II, Airport Firefighter, Fire Officer III, Fire Instructor II, Fire Inspector II, Hazmat Incident Commander.

Major Duties:

  • Serve as the Battalion Chief with responsibility for the administrative and technical control of multiple fire crews.
  • Plan, administer, coordinate, execute, and supervise the activities of fire suppression and rescue, training, medical emergencies, fire inspections and investigations.
  • Direct structural fire protection, brush firefighting, and aircraft crash/fire/rescue operations, fire prevention services, hazardous material responses, emergency medical technician/defibrillator services, and CBRNE response.
  • Assume command of functions in a leadership role for fires or other significant events.
