Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-08 level or equivalent, including supervising firefighter operations and emergency responses
  • DoD Certifications (IFSAC or Pro Board): Firefighter I & II, Fire Officer I & II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Awareness/Operations/Technician/Incident Commander, Driver Operator Pumper, and National Registry EMT-Basic
  • Ability to serve as Incident Commander or Company Officer for structural, shipboard, airfield, hazardous materials, technical rescue, wildland fires, and BLS/ALS medical services
  • Supervisory skills to evaluate performance, assign work, and manage personnel, apparatus, and equipment at a fire station
  • Proficiency in operating firefighting vehicles, equipment, and suppression systems like sprinklers and chemical agents
  • Experience monitoring vital signs and providing basic life support during medical emergencies
  • Knowledge of administrative tasks including timekeeping, staffing, training, and performance evaluations

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Supervisory Firefighter (Supervisory Station Captain) with in the Naval Base Coronado Fire and Emergency Services (NBC FES) of NB CORONADO.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Supervising the day-to-day operations for assigned shift providing guidance on firefighter related procedures; 2) Serving as the Incident Commander and/or Company Officer during emergency responses to include (but not limited to) Structural response, Shipboard response, Airfield response, Hazardous Materials response, Technical Rescue response, Wildland response, and BLS/ALS Emergency Medical Services; 3) Supervising the operation of firefighting emergency vehicles and equipment; and, 4) Supervising and/or providing basic life support procedures as needed.

Required DoD Certifications (IFSAC, Pro Board): Employee is required to be Department of Defense (DOD) certified Firefighter I & Firefighter II, Fire Officer I & Fire Officer II, Fire Inspector I, Fire Instructor I, Airport Firefighter, HAZMAT Awareness, Operations, Technician and HAZMAT Incident Commander, Driver Operator Pumper, and National Registry Emergency.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will evaluate the work performance of non-supervisory Company Officers, Driver/Operators, Paramedics, and Firefighters.
  • You will assign work to subordinate personnel based on priorities, requirements, and capabilities.
  • You will direct the deployment and use of firefighting equipment and personnel on emergency scenes.
  • You will use fire suppression systems (e.g., wet and dry sprinkler systems, deluge systems, carbon dioxide, dry chemical systems, etc.) to extinguish fires.
  • You will monitor a patient's baseline vital signs (e.g., temperature, blood pressure, pulse) during a medical emergency.
  • You will supervise and manage a fire station's personnel, apparatus, and equipment.
  • You will ensure daily staffing (and forecasted) staffing is completed.
  • You will ensure timekeeping, administrative personnel actions and performance evaluations are initiated, maintained, and completed.
  • You will ensure personnel are trained and prepared for potential emergency responses.
