This job involves leading a team of economists at the Securities and Exchange Commission to analyze financial markets, support legal enforcement actions against securities violations, and advise on economic impacts of regulations.
It requires supervising staff, providing expert testimony, and ensuring high-quality research on investor risks and market issues.
Ideal candidates are experienced economists with strong leadership skills, a passion for finance and public policy, and the ability to communicate complex ideas clearly.

Interest in finance, securities markets and public policy is essential. This position may be located in any SEC Regional Office or Headquarters located in Washington, DC based upon mission needs.
Selected candidate will remain at their current SEC duty station. All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
Time-in-grade for this announcement is one year at the GS/SK-14 level. Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Qualifying education must have been obtained from an accredited college or university recognized by the U.S.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: A.
Applicants must show successful completion of a full four-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's or higher degree in economics that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
--OR-- B. An appropriate combination of education and experience----courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Examples of qualifying experience include economic research assignments requiring planning, information assembly, analysis and evaluation, conclusions and report preparation; supervisory or project coordination assignments involving a staff of professional economists, and requiring the evaluation and interpretation of economic information; or teaching assignments in a college or university in economic subjects in combination with one of the following: personal research that produced evidence of results, direction of graduate theses in economics, or service as a consultant or advisor on technical economics problems.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENT: In addition to meeting the basic requirement, applicants must also meet the minimum qualification requirement SK-17: Applicant must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS/SK-14 level providing economic analysis relating to mission of the SEC that includes any of: (1) economic analysis in support of enforcement investigations into violations of the federal securities laws; (2) economic analysis of rulemaking involving federal securities laws; (3) economic analysis of financial risks that may affect investors or markets; or (4) economic research of issues involving securities, financial markets or investors.
Major Duties:
Exercising the full range of supervisory and personnel management responsibilities pertinent to work performed by subordinate staff, assuring the fulfillment of quality work products to meet changing requirements and contingencies as they develop Providing executive leadership and direction of a staff of economists that provide expert, analytical and evidentiary support to enforcement actions undertaken by the agency Responsible for providing expert advice to the Commission regarding the economic implications of enforcement recommendations.
Providing expert testimony on behalf of the SEC, in both administrative proceedings and in district court, and providing support with respect to economic issues in the context of securities litigation involving the Commission.
Responsible for reviewing and guiding staff economic analyses in the context of enforcement matters to ensure that rigorous, reliable results are produced.
