Full Job Description

The Smithsonian Institution is the world's largest museum, education, and research complex, with 21 museums and the National Zoo.

This position is located in one of the SI facilities serviced by the Office of Facilities Management (FM).

The Office of Facilities Management is responsible for all Smithsonian facilities, many of which are designated as historic and all of which are visited by millions of people each year.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the Federal Service.

For this position specialized experience is defined as supporting mission‐critical programs by evaluating, administering, and resolving facilities challenges with an emphasis on HVAC systems and central building automation platforms.

Experience must also include advancing and optimizing building automation performance: implementing industry best practices to improve energy efficiency, strengthen program credibility; and reducing the backlog of HVAC‐related maintenance and repair needs.

The Supervisory Engineering Technician directs the work of nine Engineering Technicians responsible for developing condition-based maintenance techniques and provides expert mechanical assistance throughout the Smithsonian Institution portfolio.

In this position, you will: Provide overall technical and administrative management and direction for a robust central HVAC maintenance program.

Supervise a staff of Engineering Technicians responsible for accomplishing their respective functions Develop guidelines and procedures for the capture and analysis of critical asset/system information necessary to improve data analysis.

Communicate with personnel at a variety of levels to convey progress, problems and recommendations.

Oversee external communication with Facilities Management Engineering and Construction staff on condition-based maintenance concerns.
