Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team of architects and technicians to design and oversee construction projects for military facilities, such as buildings, housing, and utilities.

You'll handle everything from creating plans and solving problems on-site to managing staff and ensuring projects stay on budget and schedule.

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Developing specifications and design criteria for major projects; resolving difficult and/or unforeseen issues and problems during construction; and overseeing a team of architects and technicians in the delivery of the full range of architectural and engineering services.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will be responsible for the application of architectural design expertise for new buildings and facilities, and the extension, conversion, or modernization of existing buildings and facilities.
  • You will review plans and specifications for complex designs of large, multi-tenant office buildings, housing facilities, mess halls, production or maintenance facilities, training ranges, water/wastewater utilities systems, bridges, etc.
  • You will assure project funding, scheduling and cost estimates are appropriate and reasonable, assist with coordinating and scheduling tests with activities, contractors and technical representatives, and provide inspections.
  • You will participate in predesign, design review, and other technical meetings and conferences and visit construction sites to observe conditions impacting execution of project design.
  • You will provide support in resolving conventional and highly complex architectural engineering problems during the course of construction and prepare written reports documenting coordination, findings and recommendations.
  • You will perform a broad range of personnel management functions including hiring staff, developing job descriptions, observing and evaluating staff performance, resolving informal complaints and grievances and initiating training.
