Job Description

Summary

This job involves leading a team to manage and oversee daily operations at a naval airfield, including planning for aircraft takeoffs and landings, coordinating construction projects, and ensuring everything meets safety and security standards.

It's ideal for someone with hands-on experience in airport or airfield management who thrives in fast-paced, outdoor environments and can handle supervising others under challenging weather conditions.

The role requires strong organizational skills to juggle multiple tasks like maintenance, contracts, and hazard reduction.

Full Job Description

You will serve as a Supervisory Airfield Management Specialist in the Air Operations Department of NAS KEY WEST.

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Plans and oversees airfield operations (i.e.

multiple runways/helipads, different aircraft types, varying customer requirements, and auxiliary/outlying landing fields); 2) Initiates and coordinates all airfield construction and maintenance projects; 3) Demonstrates fundamental understanding of air installations compatible use zones; 4) Demonstrates familiarization with Naval Air Systems Command Infrastructure Business Operations airfield waiver process; and 5) Oversees airfield security regulations, safety requirements and procedures to ensure all construction, repairs, and operations on the airfield are performed in a safe and secure environment.

Occasional lifting of objects weighing up to 50 pounds may be required.

Must be able to differentiate between colors to perform assigned duties, as well as ensure the incumbents' personal safety while performing duties at the airfield(s).

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in an office, or classified space, vehicle, or on the airfield. Work is conducted in extreme heat/cold, snow, and inclement weather such as severe thunderstorms.

Hazards and dangers associated with aircraft are always present. Incumbent is required to use personal protective equipment and clothing.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will prepare contractual specifications to maintain continuing operations of airfield contracts and services.
  • You will manage an airfield obstructions reduction program to identify and reduce obstructions within flight path surfaces.
  • You will coordinate airfield construction projects (e.g., cargo handling, passenger and baggage handling, facilities improvement) to ensure operations conform to established safety practices and procedures
