The Riverside University Health System (RUHS) - Public Health Department is seeking a Supervising Nutritionist to join the Hemet WIC Office Clinic.

The WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) program provides nutrition support, health referrals, and resources to eligible low-income pregnant women, new mothers, infants, and young children to promote healthy growth and development.

The Public Health Department is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable supervising Nutritionist to lead our team at the Hemet WIC Office. This position is responsible for establishing program goals and objectives, setting priorities, and ensuring alignment with the state and federal mandates. The Supervising Nutritionist will provide supervision, technical assistance, and consultation to program staff. Will monitor and evaluate program activities and budget expenditures as well as collect and analyze statistical data.

Incumbents in this classification report directly to a Supervising Nutritionist II, Public Health Program Director or other management classifications.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of nutrition principles and public health, particularly within WIC (Women Infants, and Children) services.
  • Familiarity with the WIC WISE system.
  • Bilingual in Spanish is preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to supervise, coach, and support program staff in a team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills for program coordination and technical consultation.
Work Schedule:
9/80, with every other Friday off
Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Hours: 7:30 am to 5:00 pm
Tuesday Hours: 9:00 am to 6:30 pm
Friday Hours: 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Requirements

• Provide site management, coaching and training, organizing, directing and reviewing the total scope of services provided at a WIC site or program; manage site or program staffing and staff scheduling and assignments, employee relations issues, customer service and scope of work.

• Support Supervising Nutritionist II and Public Health Program Director by ensuring staff follow compliance systems by participating in monthly monitoring activities including the review and evaluation of monthly data reports.

• Implement policies, procedures, standards of care and practice, goals and objectives for a branch or program following local, State, federal and other regulatory agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.

• Participate in recruitment, selection, assignment and evaluation of subordinate staff; assist in the resolution of employee relations issues; assist and/or provide staff training.

• Provide consultation and guidance to subordinates on unusual, sensitive or complex challenges; provide guidance and ensure compliance with policy and program standards.

• Provide and monitor internal and external customer services and operations at WIC site or program; establish objectives to be achieved, and plan, implement and evaluate the action plan for achieving improvements; initiate and/or conduct audits to identify areas requiring improvement.

• Prepare and monitor site management reports; create and recommend action to balance a region or project caseload, budgets, audits, facilities, customer service, etc.

• Manage and monitor facility issues and site safety program.

• Oversee ordering and inventory.

• Participate in various service needs assessments; may assist in developing, preparing and implementing requests for proposals.

• Participate or delegate a site liaison with community partners, and programs and provide outreach and education for assigned programs.

• Support management in the research, design, development and implementation of specialized information systems and report support program management activities; evaluate outcomes and goals; assess program compliance at the WIC site or other locations.

• Represent site or branch at meetings, trainings or community events (e.g. professional and intra-county departmental committees), at local, State and national committee meetings.

• Drive to other WIC Offices throughout Riverside County.

Qualifications

Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in nutrition, dietetics, home economics, health science or a closely related field.

Experience: Three years of professional experience in nutrition education and individual counseling services within a community or public health setting. One year of experience must have been in a lead or supervisory capacity. Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in nutrition or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Knowledge of: The principles of supervision, training, and evaluation; nutrition requirements of federal, State and local programs; the principles and techniques used in nutrition education and counseling; the special food requirements of maternal, economically disadvantaged, physically handicapped, and other groups having special nutritional needs; the relationship between cost and nutritional value of various foods; health education methods and techniques as they apply to the field of nutrition; nutrition counseling techniques; community sources of nutritional data and aid.

Ability to: Plan, implement and evaluate the orientation and training of staff; plan, coordinate supervise and evaluate the work of subordinates; perform nutritional assessments and develop and present appropriate nutrition plans; prepare and present talks before audiences of diverse backgrounds; develop and maintain effective working relationships with health professionals, community health organizations, co-workers, nutrition program participants, and other groups and individuals encountered in the course of the job; write clear, concise reports and correspondence; maintain complete records.

Other Requirements:
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid Certificate of Registration as a Dietitian issued by the American Dietetic Association.

Possession of a valid California Driver's License is required.
