Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) is recruiting for a Civil Engineer Supervisor.

In addition to supervising 6-8 project managers, the Civil Engineer Supervisor will serve as a project manager for technically complex and large-scale water, drainage, and wastewater infrastructure projects.

Responsibilities include developing and managing project schedules, defining and controlling project scope, and overseeing budgets.

This role requires coordination of significant administrative responsibilities and extensive engineering expertise.

Requirements

  • Administrative Supervisor of five Senior Civil Engineers working as project managers.
  • Coaching and mentoring team members.
  • Serve as SPU project manager for technically complex or large water, drainage, and wastewater infrastructure projects, including developing and managing schedule, clarifying and managing scope and controlling budget
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure successful completion.
  • Develop and lead project-specific SPU teams including design engineers, Lines of Business representatives, construction engineers, public outreach, and real property staff.
  • Develop and negotiate consultant contracts and agreements with other agencies.
  • Completes regular project reporting in conjunction with Project Controller(s) and track project documentation following standard procedures.
  • Lead procurement process for design consultants on SPU projects.
  • Coordinate review of designs prepared by consultants.

Qualifications

Experience: Minimum of six (6) years’ professional civil engineering experience, including two (2) years supervisory experience.

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Civil Engineering Technology.

Experience and Education Equivalency: Combinations of appropriate education, training, certification, and experience will be evaluated on an individual basis for comparability to the minimum education and experience requirements.

License, Certification and Other Requirements:

  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Washington.
  • Current Washington State driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience mentoring less experienced staff.
  • Understanding of how to apply Continuous Improvement principles.
  • A demonstrated desire to support the development of effective project teams to serve ratepayers.

Workplace Environment: This position allows for the flexibility of a hybrid work schedule. Employees are required to come into the office three times a week. Individual schedules will be agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor.


The full salary range for this position is $81.17 - $94.12 per hour.
