Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves working outdoors in Michigan's state parks, campgrounds, and forests to help visitors by answering questions, registering campers, cleaning facilities, mowing grass, and maintaining trails.

It's ideal for students, retirees, or anyone wanting hands-on experience in nature without needing prior qualifications.

Many start here and move up to permanent roles in conservation and park management.

Key Requirements

  • At least 18 years old or possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) preferred
  • Valid driver's license
  • Pass a pre-employment drug test and background check
  • Ability to work flexible schedules including nights, weekends, and holidays (up to 1,040 hours from April to October)
  • Willingness to perform physical outdoor tasks like cleaning, mowing, and trail maintenance
  • Certification as a pesticide applicator may be required for certain duties involving pesticides

These part- and full- time seasonal positions are perfect for those laying the foundation for a career in natural resources, keeping busy in retirement and/or wanting to spend their summer in Michigan state parks, boating facilities, state forest campgrounds and other outdoor spaces.


Join the more than 1,300 seasonal park workers hired each spring/summer/fall!

You'll have the opportunity to shape the customer experience all while learning valuable skills and working as part of a team.

As a frontline staff member, you'll help answer visitor questions, register campers, clean park buildings, mow grass, maintain trails and more.


Join a legacy! Many DNR employees started their careers as seasonal park workers and have since transitioned to fulfilling roles as rangers, park supervisors, accounting assistants, trail coordinators, and many more.

  • Starting hourly rate: $15.50 (starting January 4, 2026).
  • Flexible scheduling (up to 1,040 hours between April and October 2026) including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • 18 years of age or possession of a high school diploma (or equivalent) is preferred.
