Must possess a certified personal training certificate from an accredited agency such as Cooper Aerobics Institute, National Strength and Conditioning Association or other similar program.
Three years¿ experience strength coaching on the collegiate/open level.
Knowledge gained through education and/or experience which enables the employee to competently and independently carry out continuing fitness and wellness programs at the assigned facility.
Knowledge of various high and low impact aerobic exercises, weight conditioning, weight control, and calisthenics timing and repetition benefits.
Knowledge of how fitness exercises impact the anatomy in order to tailor specific fitness plans to participants with specific health concerns (i.e. back problems, knee problems).
Knowledge of team and individual sports to organize players and officials in a variety of outdoor activities and to train personnel in various sport competitions. Major Duties:
Serves as a Supervisory Recreation Specialist (Strength and Conditioning Coach), performs a variety of technical work involved in the administration and Health and Fitness Program initiatives under the Health and Fitness Program Manager.
The incumbent will perform duties in a fast paced environment and prepare and execute health and fitness strength and conditioning programs directly related to Marines and family members¿ strength and conditioning development.
The position will aid in the facilitation of all programs to promote Health and Fitness (Strength & Conditioning development) within the services provided by the Semper Fit Division.
Maintains a working knowledge of fitness trends and equipment to better serve the community. Demonstrates and coach members on the proper use of cardiovascular and strength equipment.
Monitors workout areas to ensure members are conducting exercises in a safe and effective manner.
Conducts fitness assessments to include, but not limited to: cardiorespiratory fitness, muscular endurance, core strength, flexibility and anthropometric measurements.
Provides technical guidance to military units on educational lectures and fitness and sports training.
Monitors and maintains the overall operation of the fitness centers as designated by installation fitness program manager.
Instructs individuals and groups in the proper implementation and maintenance of conditioning and training programs for muscular fitness, body composition, and flexibility training.
Instructs Marines in the proper techniques for use of all equipment for training and self-monitored progress by providing written and oral instruction and procedures for the performance of work and well being.
Ensures all safety measures are observed. Oversees care of equipment and security of the facilities.
Supervises employees include: assigning and distributing work, coaching, counseling, tutoring and mentoring employees: approving and disapproving leave, recommending and completing personnel actions, completing performance reviews and approving time, training employees, keeping abreast of and actively supporting the principles of the EEO program and prevention of sexual harassment.
Must be alert to substance abuse and take appropriate action. Provides superior customer service with an emphasis on courtesy. Assists customers and communicates positively in a friendly manner.
Ask questions to determine, verify and solve problems. Checks for satisfaction on the quality of goods and services. Takes action to solve problems quickly.
Alerts the supervisor or proper point of contact to help when problems arise. Develops and ensures implementation of an activity safety program in accordance with the Base Safety Program.
Conducts safety meetings. Advises employees of available safety regulations, instructions, materials and equipment. Promptly reports workplace accidents to the Human Resources Office.
Ensures safety training is provided to employees. Complies with the OSHA standards and takes action to correct unsafe or unhealthy working conditions.
Ensures employees understand safety infractions that can result in disciplinary actions and follows through with appropriate action.
Ensures minimal loss of duty by complying with ¿Return To Work¿ program initiatives and following up on employee well being.
This is a mixed position where the incumbent must be able to lift and carry objects up to 45lbs independently and objects over 45lbs with assistance. Performs other related duties as assigned.
