Under direct supervision, the Stormwater Compliance Specialist I performs assigned inspections and evaluations of industrial and construction stormwater sites for the Bureau of Regional and Laboratory Services, as required by the Bureau of Water Stormwater Program. In this position, you will provide assistance to other regional offices as needed to meet statewide commitments as you develop advanced knowledge and understanding of the Stormwater program. This role supports the protection of state water resources by ensuring compliance, promoting effective stormwater management, and helping safeguard the health of the environment.
Job Responsibilities:
Perform or participate in Stormwater Construction (SCR10) and Industrial Stormwater (SCR00) site inspections, including follow-ups as needed, to ensure compliance with regulations, permits, SOPs, and the Bureau of Water inspection schedule frequency.
Submit all required compliance documents and enforcement referrals per procedures.
Assist Central Office during MS4 audits, support other regional offices, and provide technical guidance to permittees, MS4s, and the regulated community.
Contribute to updates of BMP manuals, inspection documents, and other program materials. Provide training to staff and presentations to the public as needed.
Respond to and or participate in the investigation of stormwater complaints in accordance with SOPs; evaluate potential causes and coordinate corrective actions.
Monitor progress of corrective actions taken to ensure timely resolution and initiate enforcement actions where appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned, including attending meetings and trainings.

Requirements
- An associate degree in a related technical field; OR
- A high school diploma or GED and two (2) years of environmental health or related experience.
- Note: Degrees in a related technical field include, but are not limited to, Earth sciences, chemistry, biology, physics, soil science, environmental science, mathematics, etc.

- Ability to wear the required safety equipment as needed, including, but not limited to, hard hats, safety glasses, and safety boots.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with stormwater methods and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Knowledge of applicable state and federal stormwater laws and regulations.
- Experience conducting stormwater inspections.
- Ability to prioritize and manage time effectively.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Additional Information
- This role will require working in all reasonable weather conditions and the ability to access non-traditional work environments on uneven/complex terrain.
- May require overnight travel, weekend, after hours, and holiday work; this position is subject to 24/7 call back due to emergencies.
