Job Description

Summary

This job involves managing a prison store, warehouse, and supply distribution at a correctional facility, including selling and delivering items to inmates and staff while supervising inmate workers.

The position is responsible for the operation of the prisoner store, warehouse and quartermaster functions. The purpose is to store, sell and deliver items to prisoners at a correctional facility. Also to deliver ordered supplies to staff members. The position involves operating computers and to supervise and train prisoner workers in the prisoner store, quartermaster and warehouse operations. The quartermaster position is located inside the secure perimeter of a secure level I facility or multi-level facility. The warehouse/store positions are located outside the secure perimeters but work daily with prisoner work crews. Store and warehouse staff makes daily deliveries inside the secure perimeter.

Requirements

Education
No specific type or amount is required.

Experience
Three years of experience in the storage, handling and distribution of materials, or in the operation of mail handling and sorting machines, and related equipment, including two years equivalent to the Storekeeper E6.

Additional Information

The Department of Corrections may screen out job applicants who have been convicted of a felony in accordance with Public Act 191 of 2017.

New hires to the MDOC along with previous MDOC employees that are returning after being away from the department for more than two years will complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.

All new employees will complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.


This is a drug and alcohol test designated position.
