Job Description

Summary

This temporary job involves working as a veterinarian at a racetrack to manage the test barn, where you'll collect samples from horses before and after races, ensure proper handling of those samples, and give medications while following racing rules.

It's a part-time role focused on keeping horse racing fair and safe. A good fit would be a licensed vet who loves working with horses and has experience in regulatory or equine care.

Requirements

This role oversees all operations, activities, and staff within the detention barn, where urine and blood samples are collected for pre- and post-race examinations of horses. Ensuring the integrity of the chain of custody for both the horses and their samples. A key aspect of this role is to ensure the integrity of the chain of custody for the horses and their samples. Additionally, you will be responsible for administering medications to the horses. It is crucial to consistently enforce the rules, policies, and procedures established by the Pennsylvania Racing Commission to uphold the integrity of racing and safeguard the welfare of the horses.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Part-time, per diem employment
  • Work hours are 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Saturday, Monday, and Tuesday, 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM, Sunday
  • Work schedule is vendor controlled and is determined by the racing schedule.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • Graduation from a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine or Veterinary Medical Doctor program.

Special Requirement:

Post Employment Requirement:
