Full Job Description
Hennepin County's Health and Human Services is seeking to hire a Staff Development Trainer to provide training for the Children and Family Services (CFS) department. The Staff Development Trainer will facilitate both initial and ongoing professional development for new and existing CFS staff on Hennepin County's policies, procedures, and practices. This will include instructor-led training on a variety of child welfare concepts including intake, investigation, case planning, family engagement, and other topics.The Staff Development Trainer will provide new Child Protection Social Workers with skills and knowledge of quality child protection practices that include but are not limited to investigations and ongoing case management. The trainer will ensure efficient and effective daily operation by providing and facilitating administrative, educative, and supportive services to new CFS staff. The trainer will deliver in-service training dictated by a training plan created by each CFS unit. The trainer will work with a team in developing a curriculum geared to educating new Child Protection Social Workers in addition to other CFS staff.
The new Staff Development Trainer will participate in the induction training on Hennepin County's policies, procedures, and practices as well as mandated Department of Human Services training. This will include instructor-led training, court room training, job shadowing other Child Protection Social Workers on a rotational basis, and close supervision while receiving initial case assignments and training.
Location and hours:This position will be hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Human Services Building at 525 Portland Avenue South, Minneapolis, MN 55102, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.

In this position you will:- Ensure efficient and effective daily operations by providing and facilitating administrative, educational, and supportive services to new staff.
- Plan, develop, schedule, and deliver in-service training workshops and individual training dictated by a training plan created by the training unit.
- Work with a team in developing curriculum geared to educating new Social Workers in addition to other Children and Family Services staff.
- Prepare educational materials such as Power Points, videos, and summaries.
- Integrate new learning into training as systems change and upgrade.
Need to have:- One of the following:
- Master's degree or higher in social work, or a closely related field with emphasis in areas such as social work methods, human growth and behavior, or principles of social welfare.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and three or more years of full-time equivalent experience as a social worker.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and 18 semester (27 quarter) credits or more of graduate work in the above areas, and one or more years of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare or completion of a Hennepin County internship in child welfare.
- Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, sociology, or human services, and two or more years of full-time equivalent experience in child welfare.
- A valid driver's license, the ability to obtain a Hennepin County driver permit, and daily access to reliable transportation sufficient to transport clients (including children) and to attend meetings throughout Hennepin County.

- Developing curriculum.
- Providing comprehensive social worker case management services with children and families from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Working with child protection systems.
- In the training and/or mentorship of staff.
- Developing care and case plans that meet the needs of and ensure safety and stability for clients and families.
- Partnering with social workers, departmental staff, collateral resources, and others to develop work agreements and outcome-focused relationships to assist clients/families in achieving their goals.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing, including phone skills to obtain accurate data from reports and writing skills to clearly and concisely record the information.
- Advanced skill in a variety of computer applications including Microsoft Word, SSIS, ECF, and/or comparable programs.
- Ability to demonstrate excellent judgement and work in a team environment.
