The city of Las Vegas is accepting applications for Sr. Technical Systems Analyst.
This position plans, administers, coordinates and oversees specialized information systems within the assigned department, division or work unit; analyzes existing business processes and systems to identify process and reporting issues and improvements; and performs a variety of technical tasks relative to the assigned area of responsibility.
This position is fully on-site. Remote or hybrid work is not available.
Ideal Candidate:
The most competitive candidates will have strong experience analyzing, supporting, and enhancing complex technical systems, including enterprise database environments and cloud-based technologies.
Candidates should possess demonstrated proficiency in scripting and automation using tools such as PowerShell, or Python to support system integration, reporting, and process improvement initiatives.
Experience developing and maintaining SQL Server Reporting Services reports and Power BI dashboards is highly desirable to support operational and data-driven decision-making.

Examination Process (Supplemental Questionnaire)
A civil service examination will be conducted in accordance with the Civil Service Rules of the city of Las Vegas. The supplemental questions are the examination.
Falsification of information may result in disqualification from a recruitment or removal from a City position. Additional information will not be accepted after the closing date.
The supplemental questions are weighted 100% for placement on an eligible list, and must be worked on individually by the applicant only.
Eligible List
You must score 70% or higher on the examination to be placed on the eligible list.
Selection Process
Final candidate selection will include list placement and may include hiring interview (if applicable).
Any individual offered employment will be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, complete background check, education and experience verification, and may be required to demonstrate the ability to perform the physical requirements of the job.
Some positions may require preliminary background checks. Final interviews will be conducted locally and in-person.
Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the advanced journey level in the Technical Systems Analyst series.
Positions at this level are distinguished from other classes in this series by the level of responsibility assumed, the complexity of duties assigned, and the level of independence expected.
Employees perform the most difficult and responsible types of duties assigned to classes in this series.
Employees at this level are required to be fully trained in all procedures related to assigned area of responsibility.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from higher level management staff. May act as a lead worker, exercising functional or technical supervision, including scheduling and assigning tasks, providing guidance, ensuring work is completed according to proper procedure, monitoring work progress and reviewing results.
Essential Functions:
Develops, prepares and runs reports, views and table joins using a variety of tools including online reporting tools, Crystal X or higher, Oracle Developer and Oracle Discoverer to provide useful data at the request of department and city management and as required by governing agencies and other authorities.
Recommends additional reports based on knowledge of system capabilities and department needs; reviews and analyzes reports and reports issues to management.
Trains staff on automation projects and proper application of equipment and software.
Provides first-line support to all users of the systems, including setup and administration of user accounts; conducts regular site visits to assist users; schedules and facilitates periodic user group meetings to discuss issues and solutions.
Coordinates and facilitates meetings with users concerning proposed and current business processes. Recommends modifications as appropriate.
Marginal Functions:
Experience:
Three years of increasingly responsible experience in supporting, managing or implementing information systems, especially in an end-user environment.
Training:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major in computer science, information systems, public administration, business administration or a field related to the area of assignment.
May substitute a combination of equivalent education and related experience. The city assesses 1.5 years of fulltime experience as equivalent to one year of education.
Licenses and Certifications:
Possession of a certification in databases, an operating system or software application applicable to the area of assignment is desirable.
Designation as an Oracle Certified Developer may be desirable depending on area of assignment.
Special Requirements
The Fire and Rescue Department operates on a 24-hour, seven days per week schedule. When assigned to Fire and Rescue, must participate in rotating call-outs for service after normal scheduled work hours.
Knowledge of:

Oracle or SQL Database structure sufficient to allow the creation of database tables and the design of relational databases.
Interfaces between Oracle Applications and third party applications such as Hansen, Telestaff, CLASS, and IRS software.
Research techniques and data analysis.
Basic principles of budgeting and accounting.
Principles and techniques of lead supervision.
