Full Job Description

The Seattle Police Department is seeking an organized and detail-oriented person to provide confidential support to the Human Resources Unit. This position serves as a technical expert in providing high-level human resources management functions. This position will help lead the department’s Human Resources activities and transactions related to employment, training, statistical reporting, records management, benefits administration, bargaining contract review, and budget reconciliation. This position reports in-office daily to the Human Resources Operations Manager.

Requirements


• Monitor personnel policies and procedures, hiring processes, employee benefits and related issues.
• Coordinate statistical data and report audit findings.
• Independently prepare a variety of management reports.
• Interpret, apply, and explain principles and practices of public personnel administration and interpret employment laws, union contracts, and city personnel rules.
• Train and coordinate the work of professional and clerical personnel staff.
• Manage Benefits Administration.
• Provides consultation and guidance to employees on technical matters involving HR services, programs, policies and procedures.
• Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize competing and often complex assignments.
• Proficiency with the entire Microsoft Office Suite and Windows File Explorer and computer operation in the Windows environment.
• HRIS technical and digital proficiency.
• Perform related duties of a comparable level and type as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

A baccalaureate degree in social sciences, human resources management, business administration or related field and two years of responsible professional personnel administration experience in the public sector are required (or a combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class).
Position Requirements:
• Must pass a Seattle Police Department background investigation.
• Must have a valid Driver’s license.
• Must perform work onsite. No remote work option is available for this position.

The full salary range for this position is $47.39 - $55.19 per hour.
New employees begin at Step 1 of the pay progression, which is $47.39 hourly. Current City employees’ starting rate of pay will be based on Personnel Rules regarding promotions. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) regular position with full benefits. This is a Civil Service position eligible for overtime.
