The Special Investigator for the Criminal Division oversees and handles investigative activities related to the Criminal Division and provides leadership to the Division Investigators directly and through the Division Director, advising on policies, procedures, equipment, training, and other concerns for the agency investigators. The investigator must also be prepared to handle and provide assistance in very complex investigations from beginning through resolution in court. This role collaborates with external agencies, conducts outreach, handles law enforcement referrals, and addresses complex situations arising within and related to the Criminal Division's work. The Senior Investigator is also responsible for using training and experience to safely assist prosecutors and staff in visiting crime scenes, locating and meeting with witnesses, and preparing for court.Assist prosecutors in trial preparation.
Providing leadership and guidance on the most complex investigations from the charge through the court process to resolution, utilizing training and experience to take prosecutors and staff to crime scenes and to locate and interview witnesses, including documenting the meetings for use in the criminal case.
Provides leadership and assistance to all investigative staff and assists prosecutors in preparing cases to be presented in trial, and is prepared to testify as needed in all phases of the prosecution of these complex cases.
Complete necessary and required training on a yearly basis. Stay current with changes in law enforcement legislation. Maintain equipment in good working order and comply with applicable policies.
Assist Division investigators with meeting training and certification requirements, and other staff as needed, with background investigations and other duties to remain compliant with the certification needed to run a prosecution office.
