Job Description

Summary

This job involves supporting Navy families dealing with issues like family violence, abuse, and at-risk behaviors through counseling, risk assessments, safety planning, and coordinating treatment or referrals.

It requires helping individuals and groups navigate the unique stresses of military life while managing multiple cases and collaborating with other agencies.

A good fit would be someone with a master's or doctoral degree in social work, counseling, or psychology, plus hands-on experience in family advocacy and crisis intervention.

Key Requirements

  • Master's or doctoral degree in social work (accredited by CSWE), counseling (CACREP), marriage and family therapy (COAMFTE), or clinical/counseling psychology

This is an interdisciplinary position which may be filled by any of the following series: CLINICAL COUNSELOR (0101), PSYCHOLOGIST (0180), SOCIAL WORKER (0185).

In addition to the Basic Requirements for this position, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: -Professional knowledge of and skill in applying various counseling approaches and knowledge of group dynamics to work difficult and serious cases involving individuals and families who engage in at-risk behavior.

-Professional knowledge of family violence dynamics and skill in applying the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to identify situations of family violence, conduct risk assessments and coordinate safety planning.

-Knowledge of military lifestyle, demands, and stressors to support families with meeting the obligations and challenges of Navy life.

-Broad professional knowledge of treatment methods for abusers to assess abusive behavior and develop an appropriate treatment method.

-Broad knowledge of clinical and non-clinical support services for victims to provide support to victims or refer them to appropriate agency or organization for their recovery and safety.

-Professional knowledge of patterns of abusive behavior, abuse response, substance abuse, human behavior, human sexuality, attention deficit disorder, and juvenile delinquency within families to accurately address a wide variety of behaviors and provide or coordinate the appropriate treatment plan for addressing clients' specific needs.

-Professional knowledge of principles and precatives of human behavior, research methods, group dynamics, motivational psychology, developmental psychology, and family systems therapy to collaborate on developing evidence-based group treatment curricula.

-Expert knowledge of and skill in applying professional verbal communication methods and techniques to present sensitive and potentially controversial information to various groups.-Effectively interviewing alleged offenders and victims, collaborate with other agencies and facilities, present professional training, and communicate with multiple personnel at various echelons.

-Professional skill in effectively managing and supporting multiple clients, including documentation, reporting and collaboration.

-Expert knowledge of and skill in professional written communications methods and techniques and knowledge of and skill in using various web-based applications and software programs to develop case management/treatment case documentation, correspondence, reports and training plans, and to develop multi-media presentations.

This position is a TIER TWO clinical care practitioner. Applicants must meet all of the following requirements as outlined in SECNAVINST 1754.8:1.

Possess at least a masters or doctoral degree in one of the following disciplines: a.

Master's degree from a program accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP) or an equivalent degree, OR b.

Master's degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE) or an equivalent degree, OR c.

Master's degree in Social Work from a graduate school accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) or an equivalent degree, OR d.

Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology from an American Psychological Association (APA) accredited university or professional school and a one-year APA accredited clinical internship. 2.

State or U.S.

territory license or certification that provides legal authority to provide clinical services as an independent practitioner in the fields of Licensed Professional Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, Clinical Psychology or Counseling Psychology.

3. When the state or U.S. territory licensing or certification requirements include a written examination, candidates for privileging, must have achieved a passing score on that examination. 4.

  • You will serve as FAP clinical subject matter expert and authoritative expert on domestic abuse and child neglect.
  • You will execute risk-based safety planning, monitoring client and family functioning/stability, planning and implementing evidence-based intervention and treatment.
  • You will Consult with installation leadership, medical professionals, and FAP-involved service/family members regarding clinical needs assessments,
  • You will triage, coordinate safety and treatment planning, and establish individualized treatment goals tailored to the needs of active-duty/family members.
  • You will Collaborate with the FAP Supervisor on developing case management protocols, program delivery criteria, and identifying gaps in existing services, providing ideas and feedback for improving processes.
