Job Description

Summary

This role supports a high-level executive in the Bureau of Laboratories by handling administrative tasks, coordinating programs and policies, and managing office support functions.

It requires strong independent judgment to make decisions on the fly.

Ideal candidates are experienced administrative professionals who thrive in fast-paced government settings and enjoy organizing complex workflows.

Functions as the management assistant and secretarial/administrative support to the Senior Management Executive (SME) for the Bureau of Laboratories.

Coordinates in support of the Executive’s planning, development and executive management of Bureau programs and policies.

Position exercises extensive independent judgment to select proper courses of action.

Position also provides for executive direction and coordination of Bureau administrative support functions through division secretarial positions.

    Requirements

    Education
    Education typically acquired through completion of high school.

    Experience
    Six years of administrative support experience where use of a personal computer to prepare correspondence, reports, charts, etc., or to enter/retrieve/update information is an essential part of the work, including three years equivalent to an advanced, 8-level, administrative support worker, Secretary E8, or Legal Secretary E8; two years equivalent to a Secretary 9, Legal Secretary 9, or Senior Executive Management Assistant 9; or, one year equivalent to the Division Head Legal Secretary 10 or Executive Secretary E10.

    Qualifications

    Possession of an associate's degree in applied arts and sciences in an executive secretarial science curriculum may be substituted for one year as a Secretary 9.

    Additional Information

    Some positions may require stenographic skills.

    This position is filled through a limited-term Senior Executive Service/ SEMA Agreement.


    Position Location/Remote Office: The physical location of this position is 3350 North Martin Luther King Jr Blvd. in Lansing, MI 48933.

    Employees will be provided computers to perform state work. Phones may also be provided for necessary communications. If working remotely, employees will be responsible for providing other components of a remote office at their own expense, including:

    • A secure work location that allows privacy and prevents distractions.
    • A high-speed internet connection of at least 25 Mbps download and 5 Mbps upload.
    • Suitable lighting, furniture, and utilities.
