This job involves using engineering skills to protect Pennsylvania's rivers, wetlands, and floodplains by reviewing plans for dams, stormwater systems, and erosion control to ensure they meet environmental laws and keep water resources safe.
You'll work on complex projects that help prevent flooding and pollution while supporting public safety and conservation efforts.
It's a great fit for experienced civil engineers who enjoy public service, problem-solving in environmental protection, and making a real difference in community and natural resource health.
This position serves as an advanced engineering role within the Dams and Waterways Section of the Waterways and Wetlands Program.
The primary responsibility of this position is to perform complex and specialized engineering work in the fields of hydrology and hydraulics to support the implementation of statewide waterway management and floodplain management programs.
These programs are mandated under the Dam Safety and Encroachments Act, the Clean Streams Law, and the Flood Plain Management Act.
Your work will directly contribute to ensuring the safety, stability, and environmental compliance of waterway and floodplain activities across the Commonwealth.A secondary but equally important function of this position involves conducting independent and advanced hydrologic and hydraulic engineering analyses required for statewide programs related to NPDES Stormwater Construction Permitting, Erosion and Sedimentation Control, and Post-Construction Stormwater Management.
These responsibilities are mandated under the Clean Streams Law and the associated regulatory frameworks, including Chapter 102 (Erosion and Sediment Control and Stormwater Management) and Chapter 93 (Water Quality Standards).
Your expertise will support the review, evaluation, and approval of complex stormwater and erosion control plans to ensure compliance with environmental standards and the protection of Pennsylvania’s water resources.Interested in learning more?
