Job Description

Summary

This job involves organizing and running activities at a senior center to help older adults stay socially active and improve their quality of life, including scheduling events, answering questions about services, and occasionally handling supplies or transportation.

It's a full-time role in Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, with no remote work option.

A good fit would be someone organized and outgoing who enjoys working directly with seniors and has a bit of experience in community or human services.

Assist in coordination and scheduling of activities to enhance quality of life and social interactions of our residents. Requirements

A Senior Center Operator 1 organizes and schedules activities for older adults in a neighborhood senior center.

In this role, you respond to questions regarding federal, state, and agency regulations and policies relevant to older adults which govern the delivery of center recreational, nutritional, and instructional services for program participants and the public.

This position evaluates the success of center services in accomplishing program goals through personal observation and comparison with applicable federal, state, and agency laws, regulations or policies and informal discussions with program participants in order to recommend improvements in the delivery of services.

On occasion, you will order food service and other supplies as well as arrange for transportation services when necessary.


Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 8:30 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • Three months of experience in providing direct services in a human services, education or a community based setting to the aging population or to individuals from various cultures and socio-economic backgrounds or to individuals who have physical, intellectual or emotional disabilities; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.

  • Hiring preference for this vacancy may be given to candidates who live within Northumberland County. If no eligible candidates who live within Northumberland County apply for this position, candidates who reside in other counties may be considered.
  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
    • Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance.
