Summary

The Senior Advisor of Housing works in Nashville's Mayor's Office to guide city policies and resources toward creating more affordable and stable homes for residents, collaborating with government officials, private groups, and community leaders to overcome obstacles and implement effective programs.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution plus experience managing a housing initiative or program in a comparable city (additional experience may substitute for the degree)

  • Proven success in advocating for housing funding and monitoring performance outcomes
  • Extensive experience achieving housing results at the local government level
  • Strong communication skills in writing, speaking, and interpersonal interactions
  • Deep knowledge of evidence-based housing policies and Nashville’s real estate market, including development finance and dynamics
  • Track record of coordinating diverse stakeholders, fundraising, and public advocacy for housing goals

Full Job Description

This is a non-civil service announcement in the Mayor’s Office.

The Senior Advisor of Housing will lead the coordination of Metro Nashville policy and resource allocation to advance Nashville’s Unified Housing Strategy.

Reporting to the Chief of Staff, this role will work in closely with senior public officials and private partners to build a housing ecosystem that meets Nashvillians needs.

Mayoral staff (non-civil service) receive 15 days of Paid Time Off and 12 sick days annually.

Requirements

This role is pivotal in advancing housing strategies by aligning Metro departments, building strategic partnerships, leading cross-sector collaboration, and removing barriers that will lead to evidence-based, community-informed programs to work toward the goal all residents having access to safe, affordable, and stable housing across Nashville.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university and experience running a housing initiative or program for a comparable city.

Additional experience will be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.

  • Proven track record of significant and successful fundraising efforts.
  • Reputation for accountability and a standard of excellence.
  • Experience advocating for the city’s goal related to housing publicly with external stakeholders, the public, and media.
  • Proven track record of innovation and creativity balanced with a record of completion, delivery and results.
