Job Description

Summary

This seasonal job involves working outdoors with a small team to maintain and improve public fishing and boating areas, such as lakes, roads, parking lots, and buildings, across several counties in Pennsylvania.

You'll handle hands-on tasks like construction support, equipment operation, and grounds upkeep to help protect the state's aquatic resources.

It's a good fit for someone who enjoys physical outdoor work, has basic maintenance experience, and wants a temporary full-time role through November.

Key Requirements

  • One year of experience in laboring work, including use of tools and equipment for maintenance or construction, or equivalent combination
  • Possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver's license or equivalent
  • Ability to perform semi-skilled duties in earthmoving, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing support
  • Experience operating light-duty trucks, trailers, and equipment like tampers, pumps, saws, concrete vibrators, generators, mowers, and weed eaters
  • Capability to handle grounds maintenance tasks including tree removal, trash removal, brush cutting, ditch cleaning, and grading roads/parking areas
  • Availability for seasonal full-time work (8 AM to 4 PM Monday-Friday or alternate schedule), with possible overtime, weekends, evenings, holidays, or travel
  • No telework option; position accrues paid time off after 750 regular hours per year, no medical benefits

As a Fishing & Boating Semi Skilled Laborer (Seasonal), you will play an important role in advancing the Fish and Boat Commission's mission to protect, conserve, and improve the Commonwealth's aquatic resources while expanding quality fishing and boating opportunities.

In this role, you will collaborate with a small team to maintain and enhance public fishing and boating facilities owned or managed by the Fish and Boat Commission within Maintenance Area 1, serving multiple counties in Pennsylvania.

Requirements

As a Seasonal Semi-Skilled Laborer, you will perform a wide range of skilled and semi-skilled duties in the construction and maintenance of Commission-owned facilities, including access areas, lakes, roads, parking lots, and buildings. This position supports earthmoving, carpentry, electrical, and plumbing crews with tasks such as tree removal, pipe and conduit installation, guide rail and berm placement, concrete forming and finishing, reinforcing steel placement, and general building construction. You can expect to assist electricians with wire pulling, conduit and manhole installation, and site restoration work, including finish grading and seeding. Work includes operating light-duty trucks and trailers for material transport, running equipment such as tampers, pumps, saws, concrete vibrators, generators, mowers, and weed eaters, and helping service machinery. Additional responsibilities include grounds maintenance, trash removal, brush cutting, hand-cleaning ditches, and grading roads and parking areas.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Seasonal, full-time employment (through November)
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch OR Alternate Work Schedule available, Monday Tuesday Wednesday 6:00 AM - 4:30 PM, Thursday 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM, Friday Off.
  • There may be occasional travel, overnights, weekend, evening, holiday, or overtime work.
  • This position does not receive medical benefits. Paid time off accrues after working 750 regular (non-overtime) hours in each calendar year.
  • Telework: You will not have the option to telework in this position.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Condition of Employment:

  • This position will require possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.
