Requirements

In this role, you will perform a variety of groundskeeping, maintenance, and support tasks that ensure the safety, cleanliness, and functionality of the Torrance State Hospital campus.

Although direct care interaction is limited, you will engage with adult and geriatric populations as appropriate while maintaining the hospital’s buildings, grounds, and equipment.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Maintaining lawns, landscaped areas, trees, shrubs, and grounds; mowing, trimming, removing debris, and performing seasonal tasks such as snow and ice removal.
  • Assisting with the movement, delivery, and storage of furniture, equipment, supplies, and shipments, including the proper pickup and delivery of infectious waste in accordance with hospital procedures.
  • Supporting trades staff by performing manual labor such as digging, backfilling, mixing mortar, cleaning drains and tunnels, and assisting with repairs and construction tasks.
  • Operating a variety of equipment, including mowers, tractors, snow blowers, and hand and power tools, while keeping work areas clean and free of hazards.
  • Driving hospital vehicles to transport materials, equipment, infectious waste, and, when needed, patients or employees.
  • Maintaining accurate records, including asset numbers and preventive maintenance documentation, and assisting with equipment cleaning and upkeep.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Limited-term, full-time employment, 6 to 11 months
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch. This may change based on operational needs.
  • Overtime and travel as needed

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
  • One year of experience in laboring work including the use of tools and equipment used in maintenance or construction; or
  • An equivalent combination of experience and training.


Condition of Employment:

  • This position requires possession of a valid PA non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.


Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
