This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of War for Special Operations and Low-Intensity Conflict, (OASW(SO/LIC)), Secretariat for Special Operations (SSO).
The ASW(SO/LIC) serves as the principal advisor and assistant to the Secretary of War and has statutory responsibility for overseeing special operations-peculiar administrative matters pertaining to the readiness and organization of Special Operations Forces (SOF),resources and equipment, and civilian personnel.
In order to qualify for this position, you must meet the requirements described below.
You may qualify at the GS 15 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (experience may have been gained in the private sector) that demonstrates your ability to: 1) Perform security program oversight, operational security, or risk assessment for classified or sensitive programs; 2) Apply established security policies, procedures, and compliance requirements; conducting security evaluations or risk analyses; and 3) Provide security-related analysis or recommendations to senior officials.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following: Serve as the Chief of Security, in the OASW(SO/LIC) Special Access Program Central Office (SAPCO).
Monitor and continually evaluate OASW(SO/LIC) and United States Special Operations Command Special Access Programs (SAP), to include sensitive compartmented information (SCI), within the Military Departments and the Defense Intelligence Enterprise, ensuring implementation of DoD SAP security policies.
Plans, directs, and conducts on-site reviews and assistance visits within DoW, its Components, and field activities to evaluate performance and compliance with the standards, annual congressional/budget reporting, and planning requirements, and other applicable policy guidance documentation in support of supply management and direction relative to the integral oversight mission of the individual DoW-level and DoW Component-level SAPCOs.
Conduct strategic analysis of SAP strategies, programs, and budgets to ensure they support OSW policy guidance.
Independently identify and assess issues with major national and international security implications and ensure these matters receive senior-level policy attention.
This position is central to shaping and securing our nation's defense posture.
Identify systemic deficiencies in DoW SAP security policy, prepares formal position papers describing these deficiencies, and advocates for necessary changes within the Department, the SAP community, and the national policy-making structure.
Develop innovative approaches to address the security and protection of classified information and materials.
Provide oversight and policy formulation for key elements of the Industrial Security Program for SAPs.
Provide subject matter expertise for analysis of SAP security policy, procedures, directives, and memorandums designed to provide standardization, collaboration, reciprocity, and achievement of gained efficiencies within the SOF enterprise.
