General Responsibilities
The Security Operations Center (SOC) Manager is entrusted with leading security analysts in daily operations to respond to and triage cyber incidents. Serve as the subject matter expert within the team. Responsible for training and development of junior analysts, building their skill set and confidence to ensure accurate and timely response efforts to cyber incidents. Ensure that all alerts and security support requests are thoroughly investigated and remediated in a timely manner. Foster an environment that encourages teamwork, continued learning, mutual respect, and peer accountability.

Specific Duties

Provide leadership and clear guidance during daily SOC operations to facilitate accurate and timely results. Ensure all tasks assigned to the team are completed and meet required deadlines.

Dispatch tickets to the team, and monitor them to ensure compliance with requisite SLAs.

Deliver effective communication to the team to ensure a common understanding of strategic and tactical operations.

Conduct relevant and accurate training to SOC analysts to ensure all members can identify and respond to modern cyber security threats.

Ensure all team members are proficient in the utilization of provided tools such as: Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR), Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Application Whitelisting, and email security.

  • Monitor and oversee application whitelisting to verify only approved applications are allowed to run within the SLED environment. Oversee response to application whitelisting requests to facilitate smooth operations throughout the agency.
  • Coordinate and conduct vulnerability management of user endpoints, prioritizing vulnerabilities for remediation. Coordinate with End User Services and Support (EUSS) to remediate vulnerabilities and document accepted risks.
  • Administer and oversee services provided to external entities through the South Carolina Critical Infrastructure Cybersecurity (SC CIC). Ensure quality of service provided to external organizations and track the status of each organization in the service.
  • Requirements

    • Must have a bachelor's degree in a related field or at least four (4) years of relevant work experience in the areas of information technology, information security, and risk management.
    • Must have good written and communication skills.
    • Must have the ability to lead mid-level positions in Information Security.
    • Must have expert knowledge of cybersecurity operations, incident response, and tools such as SIEM, EDR, and IDS.
    • Must have knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST and CIS Controls.
    • This is an in-person position based in Columbia, South Carolina.
    • Must be able to participate in on-call rotation and respond to after-hours incidents.
    • Position requires travel statewide, including some overnight travel as necessary.
