Job Purpose:The South Carolina Department of Education is seeking a Cybersecurity Consultant to support school districts in implementing cybersecurity policies.
This dynamic position serves as the primary liaison with school districts supporting cybersecurity implementation and monitoring.
This role offers the opportunity to work with a spectrum of cybersecurity postures across the K12 environment and support the development and implementation of good cyber hygiene.
Responsibilities:- Provide Strategic Leadership: Lead the implementation and evolution of the South Carolina’s Assurance Framework for Education Cybersecurity (SAFE) K12 initiative. Supporting agency policy in systems that support student records.
- Develop and Implement Cybersecurity Strategy: Create a comprehensive strategy that prioritizes K12 entities’ cybersecurity posture, as well as technical and fiscal feasibility.
- Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with Agency executives, divisions, school districts, and design teams to understand functional needs, implementing innovative cybersecurity solutions.
- Mentor Technical Staff: Mentor cybersecurity implementers in K12 providers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing cybersecurity environment.
This position is located in the Office of Information Technology.
Requirements
A bachelor's degree in communications, business administration, information technology, mathematics, statistics, management information science or a related field and experience in telecommunications, data processing and/or information technology. Relevant experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis.
Qualifications
Qualifications:- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Five (5) years of experience in an Information Security role with at least two (2) years in a leadership/management role.
- Experience working with multiple information security and compliance frameworks simultaneously.
- Experience with designing, implementing, testing, and monitoring information security solutions and documentation across all areas of IT.
- Experience with policy, process, and procedure management and other governance functions.
- Strong communication and presentation skills to audiences of all skill and organizational levels.
- Experience in determining requirements, procuring, and monitoring tools and support contracts across multiple organizations.
- Program and Project Management skills are desired.
- Coordinate teams of various sizes and composition across organizations to meet common security and financial goals.
- Familiarity with South Carolina state and local government laws, regulations and processes.
- Advanced information security certifications (e.g. CISSP, CISM, etc.) are desired.
- Strong organizational skills, including an ability to manage multiple priorities with competing demands for resources.
- Commitment to continually building on existing knowledge and skills to be up to date on the latest technology and analysis innovations.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment while demonstrating sound judgement and making timely, effective decisions.
