Job Description

Summary

This job involves working as a security guard at a Navy installation in El Centro, California, where you'll check IDs, inspect vehicles and packages, and manage access to secure areas to keep things safe.

It's a hands-on role that requires staying alert and following strict rules during shifts.

A good fit would be someone with prior security or military experience who is reliable, detail-oriented, and comfortable working in a team to protect government property.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-05 for the GS-06 level, including authenticating IDs, regulating traffic, granting/denying access, and conducting vehicle/package inspections
  • For GS-05: One year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-04, such as examining IDs, assisting with traffic control, monitoring access, and performing vehicle inspections
  • For GS-04: Six months of general experience following procedures in administrative or technical work, plus six months of specialized experience in property protection against hazards like theft or trespass
  • Ability to physically perform duties, including standing for long periods and inspecting vehicles/pedestrians
  • Knowledge of protective systems and security techniques
  • Clear and specific demonstration of all experience in resume, including paid, unpaid, or volunteer work
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to pass background checks for federal security position

Full Job Description

You will serve as a SECURITY GUARD in the OPERATIONS DEPARTMENT of NAF EL CENTRO SEC DET. This is an EMS Special Needs Recruitment Position and will start at higher step.

GS-4 Step 09 $53,768 - $55,183 GS-5 Step 08 $58,572 - $61,738 GS-6 Step 06 $61,761 - $68,819 In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient experience and/or education, knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are being considered.

GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Authenticating identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Granting or denying personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Performing private and commercial vehicle inspections and package inspections following prescribed procedures to ensure only authorized property is brought into or removed from facilities.

GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Physically examining identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Assisting with regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Monitoring personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Performing private and commercial vehicle inspections.

GS-04: Your resume must demonstrate at least six months of general experience performing administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information, AND I have six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life.

Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. NOTE: All experience must be fully demonstrated in your resume to be considered for the position.

  • You will serve as the senior member of the entry control/vehicle inspection team which conducts private and commercial vehicle inspections.
  • You will control access and departures of vehicles and pedestrians in controlled areas to prevent unauthorized access.
  • You will direct vehicles and pedestrian traffic during periods of emergency or increased traffic.
  • You will furnish technical direction to an entry control team to properly perform vehicle inspections.
  • You will inspect private and commercial vehicles to determine if safe to enter installation.
  • You will assist personnel during an emergency situation (e.g., accidents, drills, fire, natural disasters, motor vehicle or industrial accidents, political demonstrations, hostage or terrorist situations) to protect the safety of life and property.
