Job Description

Summary

This security guard position at a Navy installation in Coronado, California, involves controlling access to the base by checking IDs, inspecting vehicles, and managing traffic to keep things safe and orderly.

GS-04: You resume must demonstrate six months of general experience performing administrative, technical, clerical, military, or other work that involved following written procedures, rules, or regulations in contacts with coworkers, supervisors, or members of the public to provide a service, respond to inquiries, or obtain information, AND six months of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-03) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector that involved the protection of property against such hazards as fire, theft, damage, accident, or trespass; or maintaining order and protecting life.

Such experience must have provided knowledge of protective systems and techniques. NOTE: This information must be supported by your resume.

GS-05: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Physically examining identification for access to restricted areas; 2) Assisting with regulating pedestrian and vehicular traffic to maintain traffic flow and security operations; 3) Monitoring personnel access into restricted areas; and 4) Preforming private and commercial vehicle inspections NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Major Duties:

  • You will independently perform installation access control for pedestrians and vehicles utilizing standard operating procedures, written orders and regulatory requirements as a guide to assess determination for a wide range of unique circumstances.
  • You will regulate pedestrian and vehicular traffic to prevent accidents and to ease congestion and parking problems including reviewing driver’s documentation.
  • You will serve as a member of the entry control/vehicle inspection team (static and/or mobile) which conducts private and commercial vehicles inspections.
  • You will be responsible for performing and resolving a full range of both standard procedural and non-recurring/unusual visitor access assignments.
