Base salary range: $46,479 - $60,424

Note: Actual salary includes locality pay (15-40%+ depending on location).
This job is for a secretary who supports a high-level lawyer in a government office handling civil cases, managing their schedule, preparing documents, and arranging meetings and travel.
It's ideal for someone with strong organizational skills and experience in administrative roles, especially in legal or professional settings.
The role requires good typing speed and the ability to handle confidential information accurately.

GS-8: To be eligible at the GS-8 level, you must have at least ONE year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 level.
Specialized experience is defined as serving as a secretary to a supervisor at the division level or chief of a unit or large organization performing a variety of technical and administrative support functions in a legal environment.
Examples of specialized experience include exercising control over the supervisor's calendar for appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences; drafting replies to general inquiries; composing a variety of written material that varies in subject and format; and developing recurring reports and documents which involve obtaining information from the staff, subject files, or other sources.
To be qualified, you must type at least 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. (A typing test may later be required.) Major Duties:
As a Secretary (Office Automation) to the Chief, Civil Division for the Northern District of Mississippi, you will provide a wide variety of technical and administrative support services.
Typical work assignments will include: Providing legal assistant services and administrative support to the Civil Chief and other AUSAs, as assigned.
Exercising exclusive control over the Civil Chief's calendar for all appointments, meetings, engagements, and conferences with complete authority for commitment of time.
Making travel arrangements and securing accommodations for Civil Chief and other division AUSAs, as assigned. Composing a variety of written material and reports that vary in subject matter and format.
Reviewing all incoming and outgoing correspondence (e.g.
memoranda, legal documents, and reports); and Arranging conferences and meetings for Supervisor, preparing agendas, notifying participants, and arranging luncheons.
Performing a variety of special assignments of a one-time or reoccurring nature.
