Job Description

Summary

This job is for an administrative secretary in a Navy command, where you'll handle office tasks like managing calendars, screening calls and visitors, preparing documents, and coordinating travel for executives.

It's ideal for someone organized and detail-oriented with strong computer skills and experience in customer service or office support.

The role supports the fleet forces in Connecticut and requires at least a year of similar experience.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience at GS-07 level or equivalent, including using computer software for correspondence, reports, and proofreading
  • Effective communication skills for handling internal/external customers, receiving calls, greeting visitors, and responding to routine inquiries

GS-8: $63,052 - $81,965 To qualify for a GS-08, your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience utilizing computer software programs to prepare, format, and proofread correspondence, forms, or reports.

Experience communicating effectively with internal and external customers including receiving calls, greeting visitors, and responding to routine requests for information.

Experience researching/following up or tracking correspondence and various projects in the chain of command, and for protocol purposes.

Experience maintaining accurate inventory of minor property based on command guidelines and ensures that proper minor property forms are completed on time.

  • You will screen and route visitors and phone calls to appropriate personnel.
  • You will control, maintain, and schedule appointments on an office calendar.
  • You will log and distribute incoming and outgoing mail to correct recipient.
  • You will control and coordinate the Executive Staff's daily calendars utilizing computer software
  • You will prepare presentation materials and awards using office automation software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) to present information.
  • You will ensure all arrangements and coordinate travel plans with organizations and commands visited.
  • You will review documents for conformance with regulations, grammar, format, needed signatures, and other special policies.
