Full Job Description

This position is located in National Capital Parks-East, in the Division of Administration.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period for National Capital Parks-East is April-January but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding.

Anticipated Entry on Duty: Beginning of April Open to the first 100 applicants or until 02/19/2026 whichever comes first.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

This experience includes activities such as: performing a wide variety of advanced administrative functions such as coordinating payroll, preparing and entering personnel actions, coordinating travel arrangements, managing a procurement system, and preparing, tracking, and reconciling an organization's budget.

You must include hours per week worked. -OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of four years of education above high school.

You must include transcripts -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. You must include transcripts.

Conditions of Employment: The duties of this position require the applicant to have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

The major duties of the Administrative Support Assistant (OA) include, but are not limited to, the following: Reports and Information Gathering: Anticipates needs and assembles reports and documents by conducting extensive information searches across various sources.

Records Management: Performs clerical and administrative tasks to manage records, maintain tracking systems, and create new records for park or program activities.

Financial and Accounting Support: Provides accounting and budget support by processing routine financial transactions, monitoring accounts, and generating standard financial reports.

Payroll Support: Prepares and processes payroll by entering and validating time and attendance data, ensuring timely certification, and addressing routine employee pay and leave questions.

Automated Systems and Documentation: Uses computers and automated systems to prepare clear, organized documents, reports, and tabular materials for effective information processing.

The duties of this position require the applicant to have the ability to type at least 40 words per minute.
