Summary

This seasonal job involves hands-on work with museum collections, such as cleaning, organizing, and storing archaeological artifacts and documents at a National Park Service center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

Full Job Description

The purpose of the position is to perform uncomplicated tasks in the area of museum anthropology.

The Midwest Archeological Center assistas and advises National Park Service units in the Midwest Region with their archeological resources.

Open to the first 50 applicants or until 01/27/2026 whichever comes first.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/27/2026-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience.

To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time).

If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement: EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors).

This experience includes activities such as: unpacking, cleaning, processing, and assessing preservation needs for archeological objects and archives; identifying, cataloging, labeling, and packaging objects and archives for permanent storage; assisting with environmental monitoring, housekeeping, inventory, and other routine museum collection requirements; and using archives and museum collections to provide answers to research requests.

You must include hours per week worked.

-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study (120 semester hours/180 quarter hours) at an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor's degree with at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as art, history, museum studies, scientific subjects, or other courses related to this position.

You must include transcripts. -OR- COMBINATION: Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.

To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) in excess of the first 60 semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards your degree and divide by 60 semester hours (or equivalent).

Then take the number of months of full-time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. Education and experience must total 100% when combined.

You must include hours per week and transcripts.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social).

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Major Duties:

Major Duties may include but are not limited to the following: Unpack, clean, process, and identify preservation needs for archeological objects and archives.

Identify, catalog, label, and package objects and archives for permanent storage. Assist with environmental monitoring, housekeeping, inventory, and other routine museum collection requirements.

Use archives and museum collections to provide answers to research requests from outside researchers.
