This exception allows up to 1560 hours which may extend the season(s) reflected in this announcement. See the Additional Information section for details.

The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement 03/16/2026 unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS: Special knowledge or expertise concerning the park's or preserve's natural and/or cultural resources and the management thereof is required.

Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

The area of consideration can be found in the below paragraphs.

Areas considered "near" Sitka National Historical Park are Baranof Island, which includes the community of Sitka, and the adjacent Admiralty Island including Angoon, the adjacent Chichagof Island including Hoonah, and the nearby City and Borough of Juneau.

-ALSO- The following are the competencies identified for this position.

Applicants are not required to address these competencies in a separate document but are encouraged to include in their resumes experience related to these competencies: Ability to do the work of a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 without more than normal supervision.

Knowledge of painting practices and types of paint used in various applications. Skill in painting interiors and exteriors of buildings.

Ability to make minor plumbing repairs to fixtures and water systems.

Ability to use and maintain tools, vehicles and equipment, including safely operating trucks, UTVs, utility trailers, chainsaws, and other power equipment in general maintenance and construction.

Ability to perform janitorial and laborer work. Major Duties:

As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.

Duties include: Assist higher graded maintenance workers in the performance of work.

Perform work in a variety of trades, such as carpentry, painting and plumbing throughout buildings in Sitka National Historical Park.

Receive, upload, and process incoming shipments according to established procedures.

Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collect trash.

Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.
