The typical season for this position is April - September but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. The anticipated entry on duty is April 2026.

Local knowledge of the resources and the typical conditions that affect the work to be accomplished will be applied in the performance of duties.

Areas considered "near" Klondike Gold Rush National Historical Park are the Municipality of Skagway Borough, which includes the communities of Skagway, Dyea, Haines, Klukwan, Gustavus, and Juneau.

to work from sketches, basic drawings, verbal directions, and work from established instructions provided.
Ability to use a variety of common hand tools and light power tools (e.g., circular saws, electric drills, pneumatic nail guns, wrenches, etc.).
Knowledge of simple and common trade practices such as, performing, simple carpentry related to framing, siding, flooring, roofing, trim, etc., simple plumbing and ability to complete non-technical and routine maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior surfaces, buildings, etc.
Ability to operate and maintain tools, vehicles and equipment such as, light trucks, forklift, riding lawn mower, paint brushes/rollers, hand power tools, scaffold, etc.
Ability to use measuring instruments to make simple measurements using tape measure, square, or similar. Major Duties:
As a Maintenance Worker, you will perform work involved in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related utilities, requiring the use of a variety of trade practices associated with occupations such as carpentry, masonry, plumbing, electrical, cement work, painting, and other related trades.
Duties include: Assist higher graded maintenance workers in the performance of work.
Perform carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools to replace broken planks on picnic tables, broken windows using precut stock; make minor adjustments, or replace hinges, latches, and catches.
Perform minor painting using brush and roller according to specific instructions on projects.
Perform minor plumbing repairs, such as tightening or replacing in-kind fittings and fixtures; replace faucet washers; unplug drains using a plunger; replace liquid petroleum gas bottles.
Receive, upload, and process incoming shipments according to established procedures; report discrepancies and damage.
Perform routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances. Collect trash.
Operate a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites. Clean and service chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.
