This seasonal gardener position with the National Park Service involves maintaining outdoor spaces at San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park, such as mowing lawns, pruning trees and shrubs, applying pesticides, and ensuring plants are healthy and safe for visitors.

The Pacific West Region is recruiting for Temporary seasonal positions not to exceed 1560 hours work in a service year.
Dates of employment will vary between sites depending on funding, weather conditions, and visitation.
Within regulatory limitations, the length of initial appointment may be shortened or extended depending upon work availability and funding.
Duty Locations is: San Francisco Maritime National Historical Park The duties for this position: You will be required to operate a pesticide sprayer, maintain turf lawns including mowing, fertilizing, renovation, nutrient test and disease diagnosis.
Prune trees and shrubs as required for public safety. Maintain turf lawns including mowing and fertilizing. Prune trees and shrubs as required for public safety, plant health and appearance.
Operate and maintain riding and push mowers, string trimmers, edger's, and hedge trimmers. Performs maintenance and limited repairs of watering/irrigation equipment.
Removes trash from grounds and garden areas. Physical Demands: Work requires frequent walking, standing, pushing of carts and wheelbarrows, bending, and stooping.
Climbs ladders to trim and/or prune trees. Frequently lifts heavy objects such as bags of fertilizer grass seed, etc. May work from an aerial lift.
The gardener uses power equipment such as mowers, aerators, hedge trimmers, etc. When motor vehicle or tractor operator duties are performed moderate effort is exerted to manipulate equipment controls.
Working Conditions: Work is done outside or in a greenhouse. In working outside, the gardener is subject to discomfort from long periods in the hot sun, and sometimes to chilly or rainy weather.
In some instances the conditions involve working in air contaminated with chemical dust and sprays being used on trees and shrubs.
This position is required to wear protective clothing during pesticide/herbicide application; as well as, normal safety items such as gloves, boots, glasses, etc.
Because of the duties performed, the incumbent is subject to minor injuries such as cuts, scratches, bruises, and scrapes. There is occasionally the possibility of more serious injury.
When vehicles are operated there is additional exposure to risk due to traffic accidents.
