This job involves helping to create and update safety rules, investigate workplace accidents, and ensure health and safety standards are followed in a mental health department focused on the homelessness crisis in Los Angeles County.

We are looking for qualified and passionate individuals to help us in the mission of addressing issues like housing, mental health, and substance use.

Department of Mental Health is seeking qualified candidates to fill emergency Safety Assistant vacancies related to the homelessness crisis.
Under the emergency order, applicants who meet the requirements may be hired for an initial period of up to 90 days, with an opportunity for permanent County employment.
During your initial work period, you will be assessed on your work performance. This assessment will be weighted 100%.
Those who successfully pass the assessment will be considered for permanent appointment to Safety Assistant.
SELECTION REQUIREMENTS:
A Bachelor's Degree* from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Safety, Safety Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, physics, biology, chemistry, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Physical Therapy, Occupational Health or a closely related field.
You MUST meet the above requirement(s) at the time of filing in order to be appointed to fill any vacancies related to this recruitment.
LICENSE:A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.
PHYSICAL CLASS: Physical Class 3 – Moderate: This class requires that the incumbent stand or walk most of the time with bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, reaching, working on irregular surfaces, occasional lifting of objects weighing over 25 pounds, and frequent lifting of 10-25 pounds.

EXAMINATION CONTENT
During your initial work period, the appointing department will evaluate your performance. Those who achieve a passing score on this evaluation will be considered for permanent appointment.
