The Adult Services Division (ASD) of DCHS works in partnership with communities to develop, support, and provide human services programs focused on achieving results in housing stability, financial stability, healthy living, and social engagement for veterans, servicemembers, and their families; older adults and their caregivers; and other populations who experience vulnerability.

The division's work also includes efforts to strengthen connections within, and improve access to, the human services system.



ASD is recruiting four (4) Career Service Resource Navigator/Social Services Professional positions and one (1) Career Service Spanish-language Resource Navigator/Social Services Professional position.

Resource Navigators are integral members of the ASD Resource Access Team, which is responsible for developing and maintaining a unified, systems-based approach to the ASD portfolio of resources.

These positions will operate within King County’s internal service referral system to help residents access programs and supports.

Resource Navigators assist customers by identifying needs, providing information, and guiding them through processes to enroll in programs or apply for available resources.

These positions report to the Resource Access Center Manager.

WORK SCHEDULE/CONDITIONS: This position is scheduled to work 40 hours per week, Monday - Friday, 8 am - 5 pm. This position meets the provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act and is overtime eligible with supervisory pre-approval. This position is represented by PSEU.


MISSION CRITICAL POSITION STATUS: This position has been designated Non-Mission Critical.

Unless otherwise directed by the County Executive, department director or agency head, all employees, regardless of designation, are expected to report to work or request leave during an emergency or inclement weather.

TELEWORKING REQUIREMENT: DCHS works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is TUKWILA at 645 Andover Park West, Tukwila, WA 98188.


Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements.


King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely.

The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment.

Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.

Requirements

  • Interface with Resource Access Agents to access customer referrals. Monitor, track, and resolve referrals within the referral database.
  • Conduct customer intake, determine needs, and create a bridge plan.
  • Monitor cases, ensuring customers are connected to desired services. Advocate for customers, as needed, to ensure progress.
  • Provide Emergency Financial Assistance to customers, per policies and guidelines, as needed.
  • Maintain customer records by completing case notes, logging events, and detailing progress. Complete the case with the final case note and exit the customer.
  • Complete paperwork, reports, and data entry required for the customer, which may include customer eligibility, activities, demographics, and outcome attainment.
  • Maintain customer confidentiality by strictly adhering to HIPAA and other applicable policies and protocols.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining professional networks, and participating in required trainings.
  • Develop strategic partnerships with internal and external referral partners.
  • Encourage a knowledge-sharing culture across the organization.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Deep knowledge of equity and social justice principles and practices, and understanding of the effects of place, race, policy and system-based inequities on marginalized communities.
  • Bachelor's degree in social work, education, or a related field. Relevant experience can be substituted for education if the applicant is able to clearly demonstrate that experience will allow them to meet the above requirements/job duties.
  • At least three years of recent experience providing direct multi-level social services.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform job duties within the context of understanding and applying complex regulations and definitions.
  • Skill in working and building rapport with diverse cultural, socio-economic, and ethnic populations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of community resources and referral agencies regarding employment, education, and technical skills programs.
  • Customer service skills in person and via telephone/email (discretion, patience, etiquette, professionalism).
  • Ability to effectively manage time to work on multiple tasks in a high-pressure/short-deadline environment, and to adapt to changes in workload demand and priorities.
  • Strong interpersonal and human relations skills, including conflict resolution techniques.
  • Computer skills and proficiency in a variety of software programs, including MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and Outlook.
  • Skill in written and oral communications for a variety of audiences and the ability to manage work across several sites.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word for Windows, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
  • Valid Washington State Driver's License or the ability to travel throughout the county in a timely manner.
  • Spanish-Language Navigator must be fluent in both spoken and written English and Spanish.
