Job Description

Summary

This entry-level HR assistant role in the U.S.

Navy supports specialists with tasks like researching employee complaints, reviewing personnel requests, and explaining basic HR policies such as leave procedures.

It involves providing customer service and handling routine administrative work in labor and employee relations.

A good fit would be someone with 1-3 years of office experience, strong attention to detail, and an interest in HR support roles in a government setting.

Key Requirements

  • At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06 (for GS-07 level) in HR technical support, including resolving non-complex labor and employee relations problems
  • For lower grades (GS-05/06): Experience researching and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations on labor and employee relations
  • For entry level (GS-05): Proficiency in customer service, basic computer functions, data entry, and formatting documents
  • Ability to perform preliminary reviews and research on grievances, complaints, and labor relations issues
  • Skills in screening questions, resolving discrepancies in personnel actions, and providing information on HR programs
  • Familiarity with federal HR policies, including leave entitlements and approval procedures
  • Office automation (OA) proficiency, including typing correspondence, reports, and using automated data systems

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: providing support to Human Resources (HR) Specialists by performing a variety of HR technical work and resolving a wide range of non-complex problems in Labor and Employee Relations (LER).

For GS-06 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-05 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Assisting senior assistants in researching, reading, and interpreting laws, rules, and regulations pertaining to labor and employee relations.

For GS-05 Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-04 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Providing customer service and performing basic computer functions by formatting and typing correspondence, reports and other documents, and collecting, retrieving, and input data into automated programs.

  • You will assist HR Specialist by performing preliminary review and research on potential grievances and complaints.
  • You will conduct research of complaints or labor relations issues to identify other potential problems or precedents.
  • You will provide information and assistance regarding labor and/or employee relations programs.
  • You will assist in obtaining information and facts concerning complaints or grievances.
  • You will review personnel action requests for accuracy; resolve discrepancies, complete missing information; and follow up on suspense actions.
  • You will screen questions or complaints to determine the nature or scope of the problem.
  • You will resolve issues that can be satisfied by an explanation of basic human resources policies such as leave entitlements and approval procedures.
