This job involves helping landowners in Washington state create and carry out plans to protect natural resources like rivers, soils, and wildlife on private land, through activities such as data collection, grant management, and community outreach.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • Two years of experience in riparian restoration, writing conservation plans, permits, implementation, and budgeting
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license
  • Certified Conservation Planner (preferred)
  • Knowledge of conservation programs like EQIP, CRP, CREP
  • Understanding of watershed management, riparian zones, Palouse Prairie restoration, and dry land farming practices

Position Summary

Conservation Planners work closely with Palouse CD Resource Conservation staff, local landowners, and conservation partners to develop and implement voluntary conservation plans.

This position provides technical assistance, collects data, permitting, runs tools and models, helps write and manage/implement grants, maintains equipment, and conducts outreach to support voluntary conservation on private land.

Position Details
FTE:Full Time (40 hours/week)
Compensation:Grade 7 | $24.26 - $31.54/hour (depending on experience)
Position Type:Permanent (Benefit Eligible)

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources, Agriculture, Environmental Sciences, or closely related field. Qualifying experience may substitute year-for-year for the education requirement.
  • Two (2) years of experience with riparian restoration, writing conservation plans, writing permits, implementing plans, and budgeting.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Certified Conservation Planner.
  • Working knowledge of local, state, and federal conservation programs through Resources Conservation Services, currently available to landowners such as EQIP, CRP, CREP, etc.
  • Knowledge of watershed management, with an emphasis on streams and riparian zones and local plant communities.
  • Knowledge of Palouse Prairie restoration and ecosystem functions.
  • Knowledge of dry land farming best management practices, soil health and residue and tillage management.
