Full Job Description

The Iowa Veterans Home is hiring a full time Resident Aide, Smoke Room Monitor. Hours for this position are Sunday-Wednesday 8:30 a.m.-7:00 p.m.

This Resident Aide position will act as a smoke room monitor and will aid activities during non-smoke room monitoring hours.

Smoke room:
Will make sure safety interventions are in place prior to the residents entering the room.
Will provide a safe and supervised setting for residents to smoke and will follow the safety plan for each individual resident and the smoke room.
Will pass out smoking materials to the residents as needed.
Will document resident behaviors and unsafe smoking practices and contact the unit charge nurse in a timely manner.

Activities:
Assist with escorting residents to and from various activities such as the gym, smoking, chapel and other facility events.
Interacts with residents, families, staff and volunteers.
Clean and organize activity and storage areas.
Maintain contact with unit staff (Nursing, Social Work, and Recreation) regarding any issues or concerns with residents.
