This job involves overseeing the daily safety and behavior of people living in a state-run residential facility for offenders, ensuring they follow rules, conducting checks and searches, and communicating effectively with them and the team.
A good fit would be someone who is detail-oriented, calm under pressure, and enjoys working in a team to support rehabilitation while enforcing boundaries.
It requires shift work in evenings or nights in a corrections setting.
Enforces safety and security standards of a residential facility. Effectively communicates with offenders, giving clear and complete instructions.
Gives explanations of policies, procedures, and outlines expectations in a detailed and understandable manner. Talks to offenders about personal issues and need areas.
Addresses Risk Needs Responsivity through use of Core Correctional Practices in communication with clients.
Regularly observes clients' behavior and communicates observations and perceptions, verbally and/or in writing, with co-workers, clinical staff and supervisors to enhance an effective team approach.
Regularly determines and documents the whereabouts of each client. This includes conducting eye counts within the facility and telephone or site checks outside the facility.
May be required to transport offenders to and from work and appointments according to district policy.
Consistently enforces procedures and monitors clients' behavior to ensure compliance with the work rules of supervision.
Discusses rule violations and addresses inappropriate behavior with clients in a fair and consistent manner.
Performs pat downs of clients entering the facility to ensure no contraband is being brought into the facility.
Also conducts searches in other areas of the facility and may be required to search visitors.
Identify and confiscate contraband and follows departmental procedures on disposal and chain of evidence of contraband.
Recognizes and responds to potentially dangerous behavior and acting out by utilizing good verbal de-escalation skills and, if necessary, uses the least amount of force necessary to gain control of the situation.
Seeks assistance from local law enforcement if the situation is not de-escalating. Conduct urinalysis and Breathalyzer testing on all offenders according to district policy.
Updates ICON generic notes for each offender, collect and receipt into ICON banking each clients' pay check or outside funds, disburse weekly residential refund checks to clients.
Monitors the clients' use of prescription and over the counter medications.
Assists in the kitchen as needed, monitor sack lunches/hot plates for clients leaving/ returning to/from work after normal kitchen hours.
Work Schedule: 2nd shift or 3rd shift (depending on current openings)
